Born from the timeless atmosphere of the lagoon city, CARCINO Design Studio interprets the universal language of form, function and design, embracing cultures of East and West. At the heart of every project lies an unwavering pursuit of beauty — in its most complex and essential form.
Founded in Venice in 2021 by architects Maria Pernice and Marco Brotto, CARCINO Design Studio operates in the fields of architecture and product design. Beauty is our first objective. Communication is the second: without a shared ability to recognise the intention behind materials and form, meaning is lost. The object, therefore, is not the final result — it is the point of convergence between vision, artisanal mastery and dialogue. Every object CARCINO creates is born from a culture of space, proportion and function that goes far beyond conventional product design. We do not design decorative objects — we design pieces that inhabit space with the same awareness with which one designs a building. It is this dual nature — architecture studio and design atelier — that makes our approach unique.
We were born in Venice, and this is not a biographical detail. Venice is a city that for centuries has served as a crossroads between East and West, between craftsmanship and absolute beauty, between tradition and cultural exchange. Growing up and working in this context has shaped our perspective in a profound and irreversible way. We do not invoke Venice as a marketing tool — it is the root from which everything begins. We work exclusively with high-quality local materials — marble, steel, glass — and every piece is entirely produced in Italy, by hand, with rigorous quality control at every stage. But Made in Italy for us is not a label: it is a daily practice, an ethical choice before an aesthetic one.
Design is born from a deep conviction: that architecture is an instrument of freedom, and that society can evolve from the ordinary toward a space where the avant-garde becomes personal expression. Design is a gift — the primary manifestation of an idea. In its clarity, it becomes the most authentic form of connection between the human being and something greater. Thanks to our multifaceted approach to design, we have had the opportunity to design furniture components for major companies. Among these, the historic brand Minotti, for which we supply decorative objects for exhibitions such as the Salone del Mobile in Milan, and for showrooms around the world, including Minotti Aoyama and Minotti Manila by Living Innovation. Design objects that cross into the world of art, CARCINO Design’s creations are represented by important international galleries, such as the Portuguese October Gallery. Our signature is also present on leading marketplaces for collectible objects, including Artemest, The Artling and Chairish. In 2024, Carcino Studio was recognised among emerging talents under 35 at the Genova Design Week and was selected for Editions, the first limited-edition art and design fair in the Middle East, which debuted during Dubai Design Week 2024 and hosted the prototype of the Nyx chair. The international marble fair Marmomac, in its 2024 and 2025 editions, provided an exclusive backdrop for a selection of new creations born from the collaboration with companies The Marble Whisper and Demetra, symbols of excellence in marble craftsmanship. We have also launched a collaboration for the creation of a new brand, “Sartorialitica,” featuring decorative accessories in lava stone and brass, exhibited during Fuorisalone 2025 at Hotel Radisson and at Milano Home 2026. Curiosity is our driving force. It is what dares to cross the invisible boundaries drawn by habit — that silent force which dulls creativity and pulls us into repetition. Finally, there is something few would expect from a studio rooted in craftsmanship: we have already integrated artificial intelligence into our production processes. Not to replace the human hand, but to enhance its vision. We believe the future of design belongs neither to blind tradition nor to technology as an end in itself, but to those who know how to hold them together. This is why we are moving beyond parametric design, toward a generative approach in which the human mind remains the true author.
Every object carries within itself the seed of an idea — of society and of form. The strength of our language lies in the ability to observe what surrounds us and the courage to reinterpret it, like an ancient sculptor whose mark represents the motionless yet ambitious dream of a new world. What sets us apart is the conviction that individual freedom is the vanguard for shaping an imagined future, where a chair can become a throne, a lamp a dance, and a piece of stone a nervous leap.
